Usually located on rainforest or bush blocks, Eco Lodges and Nature Retreats may be accredited under NEAP*, or they choose to adhere to the general Code of Practice for Ecotourism Operators, with environmentally friendly accomodation, facilities and measures in place.
These often include: recycling program, energy-efficient light globes, use of environmentally friendly cleaning products, low-flow toilets (standard dual flush here in Australia) and low flow showerheads, vege garden, on-site rainwater harvesting and solar grid connect power generation.
Many operators also participate in environmental conservation and rehabilitation programs, and/or educational or scientific monitoring programs. Passive activities like bushwalking and bird watching will generally be available on site. Most hosts will also have a library of relevant books and local information. Tariff is indicative only (per night/off peak).
